Scientia International Endorses DORA | Responsible Research Assessment

Our Commitment to Responsible Research Assessment

Scientia International is a scientific and technological platform dedicated to the democratization and internationalization of academic knowledge through an integrated ecosystem of open-access publishing and scientific education.

We operate under a clear principle: research must be assessed based on its quality, rigor, and contribution — not on journal-based metrics or aggregated indicators.

For this reason, Scientia International formally endorses the
San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), a global initiative committed to improving research evaluation practices worldwide.

Why DORA Aligns with Scientia International

From its foundation, Scientia International has been structured to promote responsible research assessment by:

  • Not using the Journal Impact Factor or similar journal-level metrics in editorial decision-making;
  • Prioritizing qualitative evaluation focused on originality, methodological rigor, and scholarly contribution;
  • Adopting Open Peer Review, fostering transparency, accountability, and recognition of reviewers’ work;
  • Valuing diverse forms of scholarly output (research articles, book chapters, edited volumes, and educationally derived academic outputs);
  • Reducing linguistic bias through trilingual publication and multilingual metadata;
  • Ensuring full Open Access under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license across all our publications.

For us, responsible assessment is not a reform initiative — it is part of our institutional design.

What We Already Implement

Our endorsement of DORA formalizes practices already embedded in our publishing model:

Content-Based Evaluation

Each submission is assessed based on intellectual contribution, methodological consistency, clarity, and relevance — never on the perceived prestige of the journal.

Editorial Transparency

Our journals operate under an Open Peer Review model, reinforcing scholarly dialogue and evaluative responsibility.

Linguistic Equity

We publish in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, with metadata available in six languages, helping to reduce structural bias against non-English scholarship.

Recognition of Diverse Research Outputs

We acknowledge multiple legitimate forms of scientific contribution, including interdisciplinary works and outputs emerging from structured educational programs.

Universal Open Licensing

All Scientia International publications are distributed under CC BY 4.0, ensuring unrestricted access, reuse, and global dissemination with proper attribution.

Our Ongoing Commitment

As a DORA signatory, Scientia International commits to:

  • Periodically reviewing and refining its editorial policies in alignment with best practices in responsible research assessment;
  • Maintaining transparency in evaluation criteria;
  • Encouraging editors and reviewers to apply explicit, qualitative standards;
  • Supporting dialogue and awareness around fair and meaningful research evaluation.

Governance and Contact

The implementation of DORA principles at Scientia International is overseen by the Executive Leadership and the International Editorial Committee.

Our Position

We believe that reforming research assessment is essential for building a truly global, open, and inclusive scientific ecosystem.

Signing DORA is not merely symbolic — it is a public affirmation of principles that already guide our editorial and institutional practices.
