The City as a Phenomenon of Analysis in the Social Sciences

This book is part of the Scientia Global Editions: CLAEC e-Books collection and invites scholarly contributions that examine the city as a central phenomenon for analysis in the Social Sciences, especially from the perspectives of Urban Sociology, Urban Anthropology and interdisciplinary urban studies.

About the Book

This volume is organized around two main aims. The first is to strengthen academic production on urban studies from the perspective of the Social Sciences. The second is to explore the plurality of possible worlds that coexist within urban space.

In doing so, the book seeks to offer inflections, categories and developments of contemporary themes, drawing inspiration from classic authors of the Chicago and Manchester schools.

The volume invites researchers working on issues such as identification, violence, flows, territories, migration, virtual and school spaces, cultural policies in cities and globalization, with attention to the intersections of race, gender and class.

The book welcomes theoretical, empirical, ethnographic and analytical chapters grounded in Sociology, Anthropology, Social Sciences, Urban Studies, Cultural Studies, Geography and related fields.

Who Can Submit

Authors with a minimum academic degree of Master’s, with or without institutional affiliation
Chapters may include co-authorship with PhD candidates, Master’s students or undergraduate students, provided at least one author holds a Master’s degree
Maximum of five authors per chapter

Languages and Multilingual Publication

Submissions accepted in Portuguese or Spanish
All accepted chapters will be published in bilingual Portuguese-Spanish format
Translation into the second language of the work will be carried out with the support of artificial intelligence and editorial review, at no additional cost to the authors
Each chapter receives an individual DOI
The e-book will receive an ISBN registered in Brazil

Publication Model and Timeline

Continuous publication flow
Approved chapters may be published on the OMP platform within up to 15 business days after publication fee payment and submission of the final version
At the end of the submission period, all approved chapters will be gathered into the final consolidated version of the e-book
The complete consolidated volume will be published by December 31, 2026
