A permanent international forum on cultures

#Cultures is conceived as a permanent international digital forum where cultures meet, speak and reshape one another. More than a single event, it is a continuous space for encounter, dialogue, scientific circulation and institutional articulation.

The congress approaches cultures in the plural, recognizing them as fields of memory, identity, dispute, pedagogy, institutions, artistic practices, public debate and meaning-making.

Central theme of the 2026 edition

The central theme of #Cultures 2026 is:

Cultures in the Reconfiguration of the World Order: Conflicts, Mobilities and Pluralities in the 21st Century

The 2026 edition invites critical, interdisciplinary and international reflection on how cultures are affected by geopolitical realignments, regional and global conflicts, migration and displacement, digital technologies, symbolic economies, identity disputes, heritage transformations and new forms of belonging and resistance.

These processes are not only geopolitical. They are also cultural, as they transform cultural policies, territorialities, institutional arrangements, identities and ways of producing meaning.

Eight thematic axes

Submissions and activities are organised around eight thematic axes:

Axis I – Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development
Axis II – Cultural Diversity, Human Rights and Inclusion
Axis III – Cultural Territories, Education and Sustainability
Axis IV – Technology, Digital Culture and Social Innovation
Axis V – Borders, Migrations, Diasporas and Identities
Axis VI – Cultural Management, Organisations and Entrepreneurship
Axis VII – Memory, Heritage and Museology
Axis VIII – Arts, Performances, Communication and Cultural Practices

Three open calls for participation

For the 2026 edition, #Cultures offers three open and complementary calls, allowing different forms of academic, cultural, scientific and institutional participation.

1. Paper submission

The first call is for paper submissions, aimed at researchers, artists, educators, cultural managers and cultural agents.

The submission period opened on May 19, 2026, and the final deadline is August 31, 2026.

The congress accepts seven submission formats:

Scientific Research
Experience Report
Cultural Practice

All submissions must include a written text suitable for publication in the digital proceedings with an individual DOI. Submissions are accepted in any language, although Portuguese, Spanish, English and French are recommended to expand international circulation.

2. Axis Partnership

The second call is for Axis Partnerships, open to researchers, research groups and academic networks interested in contributing directly to the scientific construction of the congress.

An Axis Partner may join the Scientific Committee of a thematic axis and propose an activity for the programme, such as a thematic panel, lecture, dialogue, lecture series or another compatible format.

The deadline for Axis Partnership proposals is July 31, 2026.

3. Institutional Partnership

The third call is for Institutional Partnerships, addressed to universities, graduate programmes, research centres, networks, associations, cultural institutions and international organisations.

Institutional partnerships are formal links between institutions and #Cultures 2026, with no financial obligation. They are based on scientific and communicational collaboration.

Partner institutions receive visibility in official materials, certificates, inclusion in the international network of partner institutions and a 40% discount on registration fees for formally affiliated researchers, faculty and students.

The deadline for Institutional Partnership proposals is August 31, 2026, with June 30, 2026 recommended for maximum visibility.
