Scientia International Journal for Agricultural Sciences appoints Dr. Weldy Saint-Fleur as Founding Editor-in-Chief

The Scientia International Journal for Agricultural Sciences is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Weldy Saint-Fleur as its Founding Editor-in-Chief.

Originally from Haiti and based in Canada, Dr. Saint-Fleur is a geographer, researcher and expert in sustainable development, with more than ten years of international experience in scientific research, environmental project management and higher education across different countries and academic contexts.

His appointment marks an important step in the development of the Scientia International Journal for Agricultural Sciences, strengthening the journal’s academic leadership and its commitment to interdisciplinary, multilingual and open access scientific publishing.

An international academic profile in sustainable development and environmental research

Dr. Weldy Saint-Fleur holds a PhD in Geographical Sciences from Université Laval, completed in 2025 with an excellent distinction. His doctoral research focused on socio-ecological vulnerability and the adaptation of extractivist communities in the Brazilian Amazon in the context of climate change between 1992 and 2023.

His work is situated at the intersection of political ecology, environmental justice, territorial governance, climate adaptation and sustainable development. This interdisciplinary perspective contributes directly to the mission of the Scientia International Journal for Agricultural Sciences, which seeks to promote high-quality research on agricultural systems, rural territories, environmental sustainability and global challenges affecting food, land and communities.

Research, teaching and international collaboration

Throughout his academic and professional career, Dr. Saint-Fleur has combined scientific research, university teaching and applied environmental project management. His experience includes the coordination of complex environmental projects, advanced spatial analysis, GIS and remote sensing, environmental modelling, grant writing and the supervision of graduate-level academic work.

He has taught and supervised students in different institutional contexts, contributing to the formation of more than 200 students. His multilingual profile, with professional experience in French, Portuguese, English and Haitian Creole, also aligns with the multilingual identity of Scientia International.

Dr. Saint-Fleur is currently Coordinator of Natural Environment Management at MRC Jardins-Napierville, lecturer at Université de Sherbrooke and professor at Université Internationale de la Caraïbe. He has published scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to academic debates in geography, environmental studies, territorial governance and sustainable development.

Strengthening the journal’s editorial development

As Founding Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Saint-Fleur will provide academic and strategic leadership for the Scientia International Journal for Agricultural Sciences. His role will include contributing to the development of the journal’s scope, thematic sections, editorial board, peer review standards and international positioning.

The journal will be supported by Scientia International’s editorial and technical team, which provides operational support for the OJS platform, editorial workflows, DOI assignment, metadata, multilingual publication, institutional communication and publication processes.

Through this structure, the Editor-in-Chief can focus on academic leadership, editorial quality, the development of the journal’s scientific identity and the consolidation of a strong international network of authors, reviewers and editorial board members.
