Scientia Global Editions: CLAEC e-Books
Scientia International Press, in partnership with Editora CLAEC (Centro Latino-Americano de Estudos em Cultura), announces the Call for Chapters for the collective volume:
Multilingual and Multicultural Classrooms: Challenges and Opportunities for Early Childhood Education Leaders
This book is part of the Scientia Global Editions: CLAEC e-Books collection and invites scholarly contributions on multilingualism, multiculturalism, inclusion and leadership in early childhood education.
About the Book
Early childhood education stands at a defining crossroads. Across the globe, the classrooms where children take their first steps as learners are becoming increasingly multilingual and multicultural, shaped by migration, globalisation, the revitalisation of indigenous languages and the digital interconnectedness of 21st-century societies.
Yet the leadership frameworks, pedagogical models and institutional policies that govern these spaces have not always kept pace with this reality.
This edited volume brings together original scholarly contributions that examine, from diverse international perspectives, the challenges and opportunities that linguistic and cultural diversity presents for early childhood education leaders.
The book is grounded in the conviction that inclusive leadership in early childhood education is not a peripheral concern, but a foundational one. The ways in which school leaders, curriculum designers, policymakers and practitioners respond to multilingualism and multiculturalism in early childhood settings shape not only children’s educational trajectories, but also the social fabric of communities and nations.
Drawing on applied linguistics, inclusive education, postcolonial theory, developmental psychology and comparative education, the volume explores themes such as translanguaging and multilingual pedagogy, decolonising early childhood curricula, digital literacy and 21st-century skills in diverse classrooms, disability-inclusive and gender-responsive practices, family and community engagement in multicultural early childhood education, and leadership development for culturally sustaining schools.
The volume foregrounds perspectives from underrepresented regions, including Small Island Developing States, the Global South and postcolonial multilingual societies, challenging the dominance of Western and monolingual frameworks in early childhood education research and practice.
